Definitely NOT Ketogenic
By Master Hahn
Not sure what the author thought that they were putting together here, but throwing certain memorized phrases around doesn't make something what it is claimed.

I have been reading several "Paleo", "Primal", and "Low Carb, High Fat" diet books for my one relative who is looking at getting into Paleo as a step before going into full-fledged LCHF Diet (with a Paleo slant).

Many books have been ones that I have been able to check out of the library (we have a great major metropolitan area, multi-county library network). Many have been downloaded by the relative and loaned to me (such as this one and some others by this same author), and a few that were free or low cost and seemed to be "spot on", I went ahead and downloaded.

But unfortunately, most are NOT even remotely Paleo. It is as if today's newer authors really have no clue what Paleo is. Paleo isn't some slang name, but a SPECIFIC type of diet (actually life style).

Paleo is NOT primarily fruits and vegetables (DOH, they are not ripe year-round!). And aside from wild fruit (a lot more sour and containing less fructose than today), the only other sugar available was wild honey which was hard to find and even more difficult to extract (until the control and use of fire and learning that bees could be dazed by smoking them out - and then a shared hive amongst the clan led to minimal consumption on a very rare basis).

Paleo is primarily animal based foods (meat, poultry, grubs, insects, occasional fish in certain areas, occasional eggs as available).

The whole concept of Paleo is to eat primarily meats and occasionally wild fruits, vegetables, and tubers (that could be found - they were actually pretty rare as one would find searching through any large wilderness area, were in season - ripe, and could be eaten raw!). That last point needs to be emphasized.

The definition of Paleolithic Diet is food that can be hunted / gathered by primitive man equipped by a long sharp stick (spear), short sharp stick (digging tool), and very basic stone tools (stone knife, hand made, etcetera)... and could be eaten and digested for nutrients RAW with NO PROCESSING!!!

Yet time and time again, I see this definition basterized ("I guess I'll just change Paleo to mean what I want it to... like how neat is that!!!").

Sadly I see this time and time and time again.

Paleo books that aren't remotely Paleo.

And Primal books that aren't remotely Primal (authors who don't even know the difference and think that Primal is the same as Paleolithic). And authors who think that "Whole Foods", "Local Foods", "Gluten Free", "Ancestral Foods", etcetera, are the same as Paleolithic Diet Foods... when they are not - in fact, most are much more Neolithic Diet food components, the very thing that generated our long-term health problems and led to Agriculture and the Western Diet.

And the same is true for Low Carb High Fat and Ketogenic Diets. Too many authors just seem to get it (they'll say "mostly" the right words and phrases but when you get to the recipes it's like that all went out the window as meat - and especially animal fats (gasp!) become EVIL personified!

By their very nature, LCHF Diets and Ketogenic Diets HAVE to be primarily animal food oriented. And yes while Fats trump Protein (and many LCHF and Keto Diets drop the ball by minimizing fats tremendously while hyping Protein), the diet MUST contain significant levels of protein.

Carbs provide short term energy. Fats provide short and long term energy. Neither builds ANYTHING! Not muscle, not bone, not brain, not heart, not anything. They only provide energy (and carbohydrates being an extremely BAD source of energy - or anything else, whether refined or complex or low GI or high GI, they ALL convert to Glucose...

And no, the human body has NO requirement for ANY carbohydrates. There are essential proteins. There are essential fats.

But there is NO essential carbohydrate!

So going excessively low protein (even if low carb) is just as bad as those authors who go high protein but very low fat (even if low carb).

And the emphasis is QUALITY protein, which means animal sources. Despite what soy advocates and quinoa advocates might say, they are NOT complete and quality products. And combining plant protein foods to obtain a (non quality) complete protein of sufficient QUANTITY always means incorporating way too many carbohydrates per serving.

Speaking of which... I have noted a disturbing tendency in many authors (Paleo, Primal, New Age LCHF and New Age Keto) to be "elitist authors". They cannot use the word beef without including "grass-fed". Or chicken without including "free-range". Please! Do the world a favor and knock that off! Is it better? Probably (although I have seen many false statements about the great - supposed - advantages of "organic" meats, while in their same books never once mentioning fruits and vegetables HAVE to be organic). One author I recently read even strongly suggested that consumers get to know their specific animals that they were having pastured, free ranged, etcetera, to insure that they were being treated kindly and fairly and talked nice to (and presumably put to death quietly in their sleep)! Really? Really??? Does that author really do that? If so, aside from having some issues needing therapy, they have more money than (IMO) idiots need to be walking around with!

Not only can poor people not afford that, but John Q. Middle-Class cannot either! I think these authors think that they are being cute, or jumping on a PC bandwagon, but clearly not even one has thought through what they are saying. If you feel a END to take this approach, then have it stamped in large bright red letters that this program is just for Wealthy people!

I compare that with the book "Low Carb High Fat Diet Revolution" (by Andreas Eenfeldt) which is an English translation from the original Swedish..This book was published a couple years before the Swedish (FDA / Social/Union) authorities declared LCHF Diet to be THE recommended diet nationally and specifically recommended against any and all high carbohydrate and / or low fat diet. In that book, in a section on questions, it was asked if this type of diet couldn't be too expensive. The author responded that it could be as expensive or inexpensive as the consumer wished. If the consumer could afford T-Bones and Lamb Chops every day and wished too, fine. If the consumer could afford that occasionally but usually has to go with ground meat and chicken thighs and eggs more regularly, that too was fine (pointing out that the cheaper type of ground beef contains more of the GOOD fats and that chicken thighs / legs are both VG protein and fat, that eggs are very reasonable and maybe the perfect food, etcetera... And I don't believe ever once mentioned "grass fed" or "free range" - or even organic. The same nonsensical arguments spillover into the fish industry with the arguments of "wild caught" versus "farm raised". A brief amount of research shows that BOTH have their problems (hint: the biggest item of concern is age and size of fish... older / larger fish simply have the ability to absorb more toxins such as heavy metals and things like fertilizer run-off that do accumulate in the flesh).

In fact, the myth of antibiotics and steroids and estrogens in many animal carcasses (invariably beef) is just that. Animals to be slaughtered have to be quarantined for a sufficient time for the antibiotics and hormones to clear the body before they can be slaughtered. Prior to slaughtering, random animals from each herd / group are tested and just one animal testing positive extends the quarantine time for the whole herd / group.

The one thing that IS a negative for commercial beef (etcetera) is that animals that are herbivores themselves are not meant to eat grains and in feedlot operations are at least "finished off" through heavy use of grains and soy feedcakes. This results in an excessively high level of Omega-6 fatty acids, throwing the Omega 6 - to - Omega 3 balance out of whack. So the solution is, of course to eat only grass-fed beef (or horse or whatever... buffalo / bison and 98% of mutton / lamb sold on market is totally pastured). This is less of a problem with omnivores chickens (different digestive processes) but an equal problem with pigs as their digestive system is very, very similar to that of humans (in fact much closer to us than our cousins in the primate world).... OR - as detailed by a number of experts - one can supplement with (fairly cheap) USP certified Omega-3 fish oils to return that balance with commercial meat animals fed grains.

The fact is, most people cannot afford the costs of those types of animal proteins / fats. Not in the quantities needed. I have literally read numerous reviews where the reviewer concluded that this might all be well and good

And likewise with QUALITY fats / oils. With the exception of coconut oil, palm oil, and palm kernel oil (all highly strong in saturated fat), there are no GOOD plant oils (even generic, cold-pressed non hydrogenated ones). At best, olive oil is just "okay". The best quality is

The only explanation that I have is that (like with Paleo and Primal Diets) too many of the LCHF and Keto Diet authors who claim to "get it" and even cite the correct phrases and descriptors in the early parts of their book(s) just can't REALLY get over the incorrect "Fat Phobia" and "NEED" to incorporate "vital" (uh, no they're not) carbohydrates into recipes. The other explanation is the seemingly addictive need to be "creative" (rather than concede the value in KISS).

Like the old Grandpappy said... "A million people repeating a lie a thousand times does NOT make it the truth!"

Ketogenic diet
By star larson
This book is about how to lose weight. It's called ketogenic diet. What is this kind of diet? It is a diet that limits carbohydrates, your body learns to make energy from fat. A lot of people think this kind of diet is bad and makes you fat,can make your blood pressure high and mor. This is not true. The main goal of this diet is to enhance your ketosis. If you want to learn more here is a book for you.

Lose weight with the right diet.
By John C. David
Being overweight could risk our health, so it is important to maintain the right weight or lose some if we gained too much of it. There are tons of ‘diets’ or programs out in the market right now and all of them claims to be very effective but I believe we always have to consider our body’s condition before we get into any weight-loss program, as well as, choose what diet would fit the types of body frame, metabolism etc.

This book discussed what Ketogenic Diet is all about, how it helps us lose weight and how it can benefit our health. What’s great is that the author also mentioned that this type of diet may be risky for some especially if you suffering from a disorder. If you are aiming to lose excess fat, you will be able to know if Ketogenic diet is for you by reading this book.
