Stealing Speed

A excellent book! I cannot believe this story is not more well known and written about. The story about Ernst Degner is amazing and full of twist and turns, this book should be made into a movie. I enjoyed the story about Walter Kaaden, it makes me appreciate what a great man he really was and receives so little recognition still to this day for his dedication to the advancement of the 2 stroke engine. This book is a fast moving story that I did not want to put down until I was finished. Matt Oxley is a fine writer and gives insight that only a motorcycle racer could, especially when describing the racing action at the Isle of Mann TT.

Wonderful!

Any motorcycle racing fan who lived through the fifties to the eighties should be interested in this book. A wonderful look behind the scenes of the mighty battles being raged while we were just enjoying the races. This book was needed to leave witness to the history of a sport that concerned not only stealing speed, but also stealing freedom, betrayal, and living a sport which kept the riders on the edge of death, and indeed took away the lives of many great racers.

The Rest of the Story

I grew up during the 50s and 60s. I got my first motorcycle in 1967. I've worked on Suzukis professionally since 1974 and even worked for American Suzuki as a service rep from 1981 through 1996. I now teach in the Suzuki program at Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Orlando. Yet, even with all that background. most of this story was new to me. I don't find it surprising as the Japanese are masters of copying, refining and improving ideas. Who knew that the 2-strokes we rode and loved in the 70s had their origin in Hitler's "buzz bombs?" This book is a must for any fan/student of early Japanese motorcycles and GP racing in the 60s. It ranks right up there with the story of Kim Newcombe and the Konig. ([...]) Definitely a must read for any serious fan of the era. It's not that thick a book, but packs a lot of history into a few pages.

Buyer Beware

This book has some value but generally was a big disappointment. The title is completely misleading for starters. This is not a wireless LAN design book, but rather a generic network design reference that includes wireless. There is at best ~10-15% wireless content and even that is pretty thin and full of errors. Discussion of wireless security is nonexistent and references WEP and dynamic WEP, more than WPA2/CCMP. A more appropriate title would be 'Cisco Network assessment and design methodology', or Cisco Network Design Guide'. Well I have those books and they are way better than this. The authoring and content is fair at best. Numerous redundant statements, redundant and lame illustrations (the same illustration of access points connected to an Ethernet switch in a hub and spoke configuration is used like 20 times, telling you nothing) and numerous technical errors. It is effectively little more than a series of checklist items and primitive explanations on what data to collect and why and how to analyze it, including wireless. It was just tedious to read this. Useful for a soup to nuts enterprise assessment project (just the kind of thing Cisco SEs do so they can find all the areas where they can sell you more gear), but again, there are better books than this. It does contain lots of tables, which are useful examples of spreadsheets you should create during the data collection and design documentation process to keep track of network details like what VLANs and subnets are allocated to which branch offices. Overall however, while this has 'Cisco' in the title, it is absolutely not up to the quality of Cisco Press books. It smells like someone just threw together a bunch of Cisco SE procedures together and called it a book. Note that this is not a Cisco press book.

I'd only recommend this to someone with a few years of networking experience who has a working vocabulary (vlans, DHCP, access control lists, etc.) and wants a a big picture checklist of all the areas to investigate when performing an enterprise network assessment. Don't expect to learn much about wireless networking here. Look at other Cisco books or the CWNA series instead.

About the Author
"Eric Chaisson." Eric holds a doctorate in astrophysics from Harvard University, where he spent ten years on the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. For five years, Eric was a Senior Scientist and Director of Educational Programs at the Space Telescope Science Institute and Adjunct Professor of Physics at Johns Hopkins University. He then joined Tufts University, where he is now Professor of Physics, Professor of Education, and Director of the Wright Center for Innovative Science Education. He has written nine books on astronomy, which have received such literary awards as the Phi Beta Kappa Prize, two American Institute of Physics Awards, Harvard's Smith-Weld Prize for Literary Merit, and the Walter P. Kistler Book Award. He has published more than 100 scientific papers in professional journals, and has also received Harvard's Bok Prize for original contributions to astrophysics. "Steve McMillan." Steve holds a bachelor's and master's degree in Mathematics from Cambridge University and a doctorate in Astronomy from Harvard University. He held post-doctoral positions at the University of Illinois and Northwestern University, where he continued his research in theoretical astrophysics, star clusters, and numerical modeling. Steve is currently Distinguished Professor of Physics at Drexel University and a frequent visiting researcher at Princeton's Institute for Advanced Study and the University of Tokyo. He has published more than 50 scientific papers in professional journals.

Great Textbook

For anyone who has a vague interest in astronomy, this would be the book to read. Albeit not entirely simple, this is a relatively straight forward book that uses excellent examples to explain difficult concepts. There are many charts and diagrams. How exactly does a black hole work? What's the difference between a nova and a supernova (not as simple as you might think)? Why do we get meteor showers? There is a bit of mathematics involved, but nothing too intimidating. This is an excellent textbook. Best of all, a CD-ROM is included with lots of multimedia content, study questions, and links to more sources. Avoid other dry textbooks and purchase this one.

Excellent A to Z

I purchased the "International" edition of this book in a local book store so I'm assuming the difference being the conversion to metric units.
Although this book was wrapped and I couldn't open the book it immediately stood out from the rest of the books. So this was actually a wild guess but it turned out a real good one.

This book is so well written that you need very little knowledge of astronomy in advance. The average person with basic education could pick this one up and let himself/herself be guided from the first chapters where the basics of spectroscopy and gravitation are explained, followed by the A-Z of our neighboring planets, our star and the rest of the milky way, ending with the final chapters that deal with such topics as black holes and general relativity.

And what makes it even more great is that a code is included that enables you to view interactive animations and videos on the Pearson website which will clear up things that otherwise may look confusing in still pictures.

Very much recommended for people who aren't familiar with the workings of our solar system and universe.
They will learn all the basics (and they are a lot) of the universe.
But for people who are already familiar with astronomy will find this a good reference.

It is also updated with the latest theories and findings, including NASA info from 2008.

Publisher Fails!

This textbook is an adequate basic astronomy text that covers all of the bases and as might be expected has many updates reflecting recent research in the field. However, much of the really cool photography, demonstrations, animations, and illustrations are not in the book but are supposed to be on the web-site to which purchasers are given free access for more than an academic year. Although the book was released months ago, the web-site will not be available before the end of May 2006. The Prentice Hall Product Support people took over three weeks to find this out and were unable to offer any other solution to the problem which was shared by half of my class section. Do not purchase this book; it is a ripoff. If you must buy it, buy an older edition that comes with the CD (which the rest of my section purchased.) You won't have to deal with Prentice-Hall. Even better, try "Discovering the Universe" which is better written and comes with a CD.

Great tie in

Normally I am strictly a DC Comics guy, but I am a big fan of the show Castle. These graphic novels are based off of the books Richard Castle wrote about Derrick Storm. This graphic novel follows right after the events in Deadly Storm. Derrick Storm is still a private detective, but now he is also a spy working for the CIA. After recently loosing his first CIA handler, he is trying to throw himself into his work. Helping a wealthy heiress get back the money she was conned out of, Storm comes across an African Freedom fighter.

The Freedom fighter tracks Storm down and begs him to find his sister who is trapped in a human traffic ring. I thought this was a great plot especially for a comic book. There is quite a bit of action in this book, and the artwork is really well done. Like any spy novel there are gun fights, chases and beautiful women. One in particular make Storm think he has seen a ghost.

This is the second graphic novel in the Derrick Storm series, and I think they are a lot of fun. If you are a fan of the show but not a fan of comics, I would recommend this. It is a lot of fun as a fan to read these stories that we hear about on the show. The fact it is in a comic makes it even better for me. If you are fan of comics and not the show, I would still recommend this. The story is interesting and the artwork is well done. This is definitely worth the read.

Great Graphics!

The artwork is fantastic. Obviously this is a graphic novel for grown-ups, so to speak, but it's very well written and reads like a novel. It has an interesting plot, and some great twists and ends on a cliffhanger that makes you want more.

Franky Mustari Forliano I absolutely fell in love with your book. I cried so hard at the end, I felt I was living with you and your family. I have so much respect for you. I really wish I got to meet your family especially your dad. He was such a gentleman who cared deeply for his family and would do anything in the world for you all. I'm appalled by the crooked government and how they tried to make your father look like a monster when in fact he was a loving, caring, giving, devoted, honest, trustworthy family man. Finally nobody else can hurt Harry anymore. I'm so honored to have gotten to read your book and have been waiting for it for years. It was well worth the wait. I love you so much. Everyone needs to read your book and get the truth across. You have taught me to walk proud, honor, respect, and to keep moving forward while staying positive. I know your dad taught you everything you know with class and respect, and for that I'm so grateful to have you in my life and have passed along to me. I feel like I got to know your family more and have a full understanding of how the government and others tried taking Harry down. He did what he had to do with class while being innocent.
